Is taking a break a good idea?
You might consider taking a break if the atmosphere at home has gotten so volatile that it has become impossible to communicate. Taking a break can be a risky move. It may make one partner's "heart grow fonder" while the other partner feels like staying apart is their ticket out of the relationship.
An agreement with rules such as not see other people, and not abandoning the relationship may help establish an understanding of what "taking a break" means to both of you.
